Why name a blog after a mountain in Colorado?
I love hearing stories about people. It’s something humans have always done, and it’s what connects us.
I live in Lake Oswego, a suburb of Portland. I grew up in Colorado with my two siblings and a single mother. I love the Pacific Northwest—the rain, the green, and the culture. But my story started in Colorado with my childhood best friend, my brother.
My brother lived on a ranch on the base of Sopris Mountain near Basalt Co. Like many, the mountains called for him.
They are magical, inviting, and dangerous—everything humans can’t resist. But the energy on any given day makes sense. In downtown Aspen, you feel the history and, simultaneously, the vision of a new future. You can hike the Maroon Bell trail and experience the fresh, natural feel of nature. Or ski some of the best Slopes in the world.
I, on the other hand, felt right at home in the Pacific Northwest. With its vast wineries, gardens, and music scene, I have never looked back.
Sopris Couture is a nod to my past and childhood best friend, who always supported my adventures and would’ve been excited that I named a shopping blog after a place he loved so much… Just kidding, he would’ve laughed Carhart-wearing butt off.
I can’t wait to hear yours.
